Potential Z

The Z potential is a unit of measurement, a physical property that expresses the capacity of attraction or repulsion of charge between particles.

It is not an element that can be measured directly. Its calculation is based on theoretical models or estimates.

Zeta potential measurement can be applied in different industries, such as ceramics, pharmaceuticals, medicine, minerals, electronics and water treatment.

What is the Z potential for?

The importance of the Z potential lies in the fact that, depending on its value, it influences the stability of the materials.

If there is a high Z potential, the emulsions are electrically stabilized, the repulsive forces overcome the attractive forces and a stable system is generated. Whereas if there is a low Z potential, emulsions coagulate, which can promote instability.
