Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic treatment that consists of exfoliating the skin in order to obtain younger, brighter, smoother and cleaner skin.
Microdermabrasion is performed using a kind of pen with a diamond sandpaper on the tip, which also sucks impurities from the skin.
The movement of the pen should be carried out gently, otherwise it may cause skin irritation.
What is microdermabrasion used for?
It is a technique indicated to remove skin blemishes and eliminate blackheads, as well as acne marks or scars and facial hyperpigmentation. It improves the appearance of the skin, with a more even tone and a smoother feel.
This is achieved by boosting the production of collagen and elastin, eliminating dead skin cells through a gentle peeling.
How microdermabrasion works
For this purpose, microcrystals are used, which produce exfoliation in the superficial layers of the skin. In this way, dead cells and impurities are eliminated, reducing wrinkles, scars and any other marks on the skin.
As it is a gentle exfoliation, it is a treatment suitable for almost all skin types, usually on the face, although it is also viable for other areas such as the décolleté, neck, back and hands. The most common areas are those that are most visible.
The microdermabrasion session is quite short, not exceeding 45 minutes. The number of sessions required varies according to each person and skin type. There are no side effects or pain.
As with other techniques, greater results can be achieved by combining with other treatments, although this situation should be recommended by a specialist.
It is also recommended, in order to prolong the effect of the treatment, the use of moisturizers with vitamin C, E and even hyaluronic acid, to maintain skin tension, moisturize and prevent the appearance of new blemishes.
Differences between microdermabrasion and peeling
Although they are two exfoliation techniques, microdermabrasion is based on the use of an element that cleans dead skin cells with a diamond crystal.
In contrast, peeling uses chemical substances to remove these impurities. This treatment may have more side effects and also requires more aftercare.
