What is caffeine?
Caffeine is one of the most coveted active ingredients in cosmetics, due to its great capacity to cross the skin barrier, which allows it to obtain better results when used as an antioxidant and as an anti-cellulite-body fat reducer.
It is an alkaloid extracted mainly from coffee beans and leaves. While ingesting it in beverages and soft drinks stimulates brain activity, using it in our body has a rejuvenating effect.
Benefits of caffeine in cosmetics
You have probably heard or read that it prevents aging, but it has other benefits such as fighting cellulite, moisturizing, exfoliating and reducing eye bags.
It also has a protective action against UV radiation, reducing skin photoaging.
For these reasons, most laboratories are trying to exploit the properties of caffeine in their products. However, formulations that include caffeine should not have more than 10% of this active ingredient.
The antioxidant role of caffeine
As an antioxidant, it fights free radicals generated by external aggressions.
In addition, caffeine inhibits 5-a-reductase activity, which in turn helps to increase blood microcirculation in the skin and also stimulates hair growth.
By acting as an anti-inflammatory, it improves circulation and reduces inflammation under the eyes. It also reduces dark circles under the eyes and plays an important role in improving the appearance of the face by improving the skin’s luminosity.
Caffeine as a reducer
Caffeine acts directly on adipose tissue. It is an anti-cellulite reducer because it prevents, with polyphenols, the accumulation of excessive fat in the cell by inhibiting the activity of phosphodiesterase, stimulating the degradation of fats during the lipolysis process.
Adding caffeine to the usual routine or initiating it is very simple. Just keep in mind that before applying the cosmetic the skin must be clean, dry and toned.
It should be applied before the serum or moisturizer, massaging gently from the inside out. It is not necessary to use a lot of product, just a drop is enough.
At Sisneo we have included caffeine as an active ingredient in the 3D Sculptor product, part of the Mesoactives line, for fat reduction and body shaping.
