After the age of 30, when the body begins to produce less collagen and elastin, which are the elements responsible for maintaining the elasticity and firmness of the skin, the first expression lines begin to appear.
It is a sign that youth is being left behind, so it is time to start implementing certain beauty routines that will allow us to mitigate the effects of aging and even avoid them.
In the following illustration you can see graphically how wrinkles are formed. In the first drawing, everything seems to be in order, while in the second, it gives the impression that it is falling apart. It is, in short, what happens to our skin when the naturally produced collagen and elastin are not enough to support the skin structure.
At that moment, the epidermis loses the support that kept it firm and the furrows that we know as wrinkles are formed.
Although wrinkles appear all over the body, those on the face and neck are the most combated.
Causes of wrinkles
A large number of external agents influence the appearance of wrinkles. In addition to age, the following stand out:
Pollution
It is very important to perform a daily cleaning to eliminate bacteria and impurities accumulated during the day.
It should be taken into account that these impurities, if not eliminated, end up getting into the layers of the skin and clouding the processes of cell regeneration. Facial cleansing should be a daily habit, as important as brushing your teeth.
Tobacco and alcohol
They weaken skin cells and cause accelerated aging.
Sun exposure
The sun causes dehydration of the skin, so if we do not take care of it, the aging process of the skin cells is accelerated.
This does not mean that you cannot sunbathe, but you should take care of yourself and use sun protection every day.
Genetics
It has been proven that dark and dark skins, because they are thicker, wrinkle less. On the contrary, white skins, which are thinner, wrinkle more easily.
Gestures
When we are young, our skin is firm and maintains elasticity. With certain gestures and grimaces, we make repetitive movements that eventually create expression lines.
The same happens if we adopt habitual positions only on one side of the body, such as resting our head on our arms or sleeping in a certain position.
Makeup
As we pointed out in the section on pollution, going to bed without removing makeup means giving products that are not designed to care for the skin and certain impurities the opportunity to penetrate into deeper layers and damage cell regeneration.
Stress
Not getting enough rest leads to accelerated skin aging. More wrinkles appear if we suffer from stress or do not get the sleep we should.
The skin looks duller because our cells are not able to carry out the renewal and repair process.
When we rest, we breathe more deeply, which causes greater oxygenation in the cells, which in turn carry out their regeneration work more efficiently, as well as the production of collagen and elastin.
How to prevent wrinkles
Likewise, in addition to cosmetics and aesthetic medicine, there are natural agents that can help us prevent the appearance of wrinkles. At the end of the day, it is all about maintaining a healthy life.
Feeding
Not enough importance is given to the ability of food to promote the overall good appearance of the body.
We have foods rich in antioxidants such as avocado, chocolate or turmeric; with vitamin A, which is anti-aging, such as eggs, cereals, orange fruits and green vegetables. Also fish, which is rich in Omega-3.
It is also necessary to reduce the consumption of refined flours, red meat, fried products and sugars.
Physical exercise
Sport stimulates blood circulation, so the skin receives more oxygenation and nutrients. Anything that involves stimulating the skin cells promotes the movement of impurities and therefore improves the appearance and radiance of the skin.
Massages
Massages, whether professional or in-house, help to relax the skin, which may otherwise be stiff due to daily stress.
In addition, like physical exercise, it activates blood circulation and collagen production.
Creams
As we have seen before, skin dehydration causes accelerated cell death, which complicates cell regeneration and thus accelerates aging.
Hydration should be internal and external. We should drink water daily and also nourish the skin with creams and vegetable oils composed of vitamins and other active ingredients. This helps to maintain its elasticity and provides vitality.
